This year’s Drogheda Cares at Christmas campaign is asking everyone to take a 24-hour break from social media and channel that time and energy into supporting two impactful charities, one local and the other overseas.
The local charity to receive support is The Red Door Project which was established in 2010 and is doing fantastic work providing confidential assistance and services to individuals, families and members of the wider community affected by alcohol and drug addiction.
The Red Door offers support and advocacy to individuals at any stage of addiction and a multiplicity of progressive routes including a special rehab community employment programme.
The overseas project being supported this year is a school run by the Augustinians in Bolivia.
The school provides a high level of education to young people in one of the poorest areas of the city. Following the Augustinians’ credo of ‘community’ the school reaches out to the most disadvantaged and provides an opportunity for them to receive an education as a route out of poverty.
The school campus also includes an orphanage and some of the money collected will go toward the orphanage and help provide up to date equipment in the science labs.
Sponsorship cards have already been sent out to local schools, and they are also available at the Augustinian Church shop in Shop Street or from Phil Conyngham.
