Two of Drogheda’s greatest musical entities, Drogheda Brass Brass Band and tenor Seán Tester, are to perform a special concert together on Sunday February 25th in the Augustinian Church.
Seán is on a rapidly rising trajectory in the world of choral singing and opera and Drogheda Brass Band are the current Irish champions so this will be a concert not to be missed. Proceedings commence at 5.00 pm. And will will feature sets from the band and Seán himself, before culminating in a joint finale.
Seán studied drama, dance and singing at the Drogheda School of Performing Arts and has a strong background in choral singing as a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Male Voice Choir.
In recent years, Seán’s vocal interest turned to opera and classical singing, which led to his completion of the Recital Artist Diploma at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. He was a quarter finalist in the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition 2022 and has performed two years in a row at the Summer Festival of Opera at Kilruddery House.
Seán has been engaged as a member of the Irish National Opera Chorus for Irish National Opera’s productions of Rossini’s ‘Guillaume Tell’, Gounod’s ‘Faust’ and Puccini’s ‘La Bohème’.
December 2022 saw Seán make his tenor soloist debut in Handel’s Messiah. Seán enjoyed his time as a participant in ‘Celebrating the Voice’ with international star mezzo-sopranos Tara Erraught and Angela Brower.
In 2023, Seán was a recipient of a Next Generation Award from Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, a bursary award which saw him continue his studies on the Masters in Music Performance (Vocal Studies) at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
Seán recently made his international role debut in Switzerland where he performed the role of Rodolphe in a production of Rossini’s Guillaume Tell at Nouvel Opèra Fribourg/Neue Oper Freiburg.

Established in 1886, Drogheda Brass Band has been entertaining and performing at events in Drogheda since its foundation.
Under musical director Stephen Murray, the band has a busy few months ahead, with three engagements around Drogheda during the St Patrick’s weekend festivities before returning to Athlone in April to defend its national title.
The band is also running a number of recruitment drives early in 2024, which includes adult classes, beginners classes and a new percussion class.
