Another Community House is to be allocated to the Connect Family Resource Centre which offers a wide range of services to families and individuals in the local community in the Moneymore area of Drogheda.
This was one of the outcomes from ‘Our Place’ – A community led initiative by local residents seeking action to tackle serious issues affecting their local community which included a guided walk around the Moneymore for all stakeholders best placed to offer support and resources to assist them in their endeavours.
Sinn Féin General Election Candidate Cllr Joanna Byrne welcomed the proactive response to the issues that the community have been battling, following the very successful afternoon in the area with Council Officials including Acting Chief Executive Joe McGuinness and Director of Services for Housing Ger Murphy with Elected Representatives and Staff from Connect FRC.
Cllr Byrne was given an update from Louth County Council outlining a series of measures and actions that the Council have committed to undertaking, which includes the following actions:
- Review of plans for the Gap
- Multi Use Games area re-vamp which will conclude this Friday
- Additional Playground pieces to be installed
- Clean Up of all the waste material in Green area between Moneymore and Laurence Park
- Grass will be subsequently cut providing a fully cut area as opposed to central area only
- Traffic Wardens undertaking scheduled patrols of Moneymore entrance and additional yellow lining also to be done
- An Additional Community House to be allocated to Connect FRC
- Eight Allocations have now been made to vacant houses owned by the Council with two remaining to be resolved ASAP
- Long term privately owned vacant houses to be considered for CPO
- Several public streetlights that were cut or knocked down are to be replaced and consideration will been given to infill housing in former play area.
In response to the communication from the Council Cllr Byrne said;
“The Council need to be commended for getting behind the initiative organised by ‘Our Place, Our community’.
“Never in my 8 years on the Council have I seen so many senior staff, including the CE join residents, elected reps and stakeholders on a 2hr engaging walk around an area discussing the issues that are affecting the community.
“Action on many of these issues has been swift and prompt, from additional amenities including another community house, to a dedicated focus on dereliction, vacancy and traffic and dumping.
“All of these measures will ease the burden on residents and help rebuild a community that is proud, passionate and invested in bettering their area.
“The ‘Our Place, Our Community’ group, supported by Connect FRC were clear in the resources they need to support them and I’m delighted to have played my part in aiding them and delivering this.”
“Moneymore and its wider area is full of great people and although they have been overlooked in recent years by those tasked with servicing their needs, they stood tall and kept their area on the agenda, and hat’s off to them!
“I will continue to throw my weight behind this campaign but today is a positive day for all involved, all of their hard work and persistence is beginning to pay off.”
