Last month Drogheda Life brought you the news that Wogan Build Centre were running a raffle to raise funds for the Barrett family from Highlands in Drogheda whose three sons suffer from a debilitating and rare condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS).
EDS attacks all of the internal organs but there is nowhere in Ireland that the Barrett Boys, Brandon, Keane and Kallum can receive the treatment they need so they and their parents must pay huge sums every year travelling for treatment in UK hospitals.
They receive no financial help from the HSE or the Irish Government so, on top of their other worries, they must continue to fundraise.
The Wogan Build Centre raffle raised over €4,000 and last Friday they invited the Barretts in to the Centre on the North Road to receive the cheque.
Meanwhile the ordeal for the Barretts continues, here’s a post on their Facebook page from a couple of days ago by their Mum Mary which gives you a great insight into their lives:
Ever had one of those days that nothing goes to plan?
Woke to Kallum not well so Temple St brought him in to have a look. Mean time trying to organise Brandon’s pre op for London as he heads next week for surgery.
So while I’m in Temple St. Ian’s got Brandon an appointment, one of two today, as doctors had to split the tests.
Kallum was allowed home for a few hours then called us to say we need to admit him today to try sort out what’s going on before next week. So Ian done part 2 while I got Kallum ready.
So here we are hooked up to machines again in Temple St and worst thing is I know what they look at and can already see the figures going the wrong way. This kid needs a break.
Have to admit today was a hard day for us all. Worst part is we have around another 5 weeks of upheaval. On the bright side though Keane is really stepping up to help out where he can.
Right vent over now back to my viewing for the night. Hope tomorrow is a better day.
