Is your dog called Bella, Bailey, Luna, or Charlie? If so, you’re not alone — those were among Ireland’s favourite dog names in last year’s Dogs Trust Dog Census.
Now, for the second year running, Dogs Trust Ireland wants to “count every dog, so every dog counts” with its 2025 Dog Census — and they’re calling on everyone, dog owners and dog lovers alike, to get involved.
Over 26,000 people took part in the first-ever census last year, sharing details on nearly 37,000 dogs across the country. The results revealed Ireland’s top breeds too, with Jack Russells (10%), Labradors (8%), and Collies (7%) leading the way.
But beyond the fun facts, the census also uncovered real challenges — from the cost of veterinary care (42% of owners struggle with it) to irresponsible breeding, which remains a key concern. Dogs Trust says this information helps shape its campaigns and improve the lives of dogs nationwide.
Paulina Padlo, Communications Manager at Dogs Trust Ireland, said: “By taking part in the 2025 Dog Census, you’ll help us deepen our understanding of the challenges faced by dogs and the people who love them.”
