Water supplies not back to normal until this evening

More than 24 hours after a major watermain burst on the Donore Road hundreds of homes and businesses in Drogheda are still without a water supply and are unlikely to be re-connected before 6.00 pm this evening.

In a statement issued this morning Irish Water said that the repairs may cause supply disruptions to Donore Road, Termonfeckin, Drogheda and surrounding areas and gave an estimated completion time of 6pm this evening, July 20.

“We recommend that you allow 2-3 hours after the estimated restoration time for your supply to fully return” they added.

“The burst is located on the Donore road on a water main that supplies water in Drogheda. The areas affected include Ballsgrove Estate, Donore Industrial Estate, Trinity Street, Patrick Street, Lourdes, Drogheda Town North, Cord Road, Cross Lane, Ballymakenny Road, Sandyford, North Quay, Termonfeckin, Clogherhead, Termonabbey, Newfoundwell Road, Ballymakenny Road and surrounding areas.

“Dedicated water service crews were mobilised and repairs were underway since early on Monday morning and continued through the night.

“The repair is proving complex given the difficult ground conditions and the presence of other services.”

Irish Water has prioritised water supply to the Lourdes hospital and the Cottage hospital and is mobilizing alternative water supplies and will provide a further update as soon as locations are confirmed.

“Following the completion of the repair it will take several hours for normal water supply to return to all customers” they said.
