Two arrests in connection with 2019 fatal shooting at Clogherhead Caravan Park

Gardaí investigating the fatal shooting of a 29 year old man at the Aisling caravan park in Clogherhead on Tuesday 27th August, 2019 have arrested two men.

The first arrest took place on Monday afternoon 20th February, 2023when a man in his 30s, was detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at Drogheda Garda station.

He has since been released without charge in relation to this investigation and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí arrested a second man, also aged in his 30s, yesterday morning Wednesday 22nd February, 2023 and he is currently being detained in Drogheda Garda station under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007. Investigations are ongoing.

At a media briefing at Clogherhead Garda station on August 28th 2019, a day after the shooting, Superintendent Andrew Watters described the killing as “a particularly indiscriminate and callous act” which was carried out in very busy caravan park where families with young children were enjoying the last days of the summer holidays.

He confirmed that the 29 year old man who was shot dead at the Aisling Caravan Park was 29 year old Keith Branigan from Drogheda and offered condolences on behalf of the Gardaí in Drogheda to Mr. Branigan’s wife and to his family and friends.
