Aisling Floyd was one of several members of Tullyallen Macra na Feirme who competed in the county round of the Dairy Stock Judging competition when Joe Healy of the Irish Holstein Friesian Association gave a talk on what to look for in producing good quality cows and how to stock judge for anyone who had never done it before.
Aisling Floyd won the under 23 section of the competition and progressed to represent Louth in the National Stock Judging event which was held in Ballyclider Herd in Portlaoise which she also went on to win.
Three other members of Tullyallen Macra, James Murray, Niall Weldon and JJ Markey teamed up to represent the club in the county Louth Macra farm skills competition and were also selected to progress to the national competition.
The two judges on the night, Jimmy Kirwan (Termonfeckin) and John Roach (Tullyallen), selected the Tullyallen guys to represent Louth in National Semi Finals.
In the Semi Finals, which took place in Limerick, the lads started with a Farm Knowledge Quiz, then moved on to tractor work which included reversing a roller around a corner and stacking bales before they moved on to putting up a stock proof fence.
Louth Macra hasn’t competed in these competitions for a few years now so it was great to have Louth being represented at a national level but then also great that the Tullyallen club is pushing members to try new things and meet new people.
Tullyallen Macra PRO, Leah Mullen, told Drogheda Life that the club is always looking for new members who do not have to be from a farming background as there are loads of activities and competitions to suit everyone. You can contact her on 086 7309 113.
