The Department of Rural and Community Development under Minister Heather Humphreys has awarded 225,000 Euro for the complete interior refurbishment of Tullyallen Community Centre under the Louth County Council led Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
A spokesperson for the committee told Drogheda Life that they have been working towards this award for the last number of years and our application for the Community Centre submitted in 2023 has been deemed successful. This will allow us to progress this project to completion.
“We will now work in conjunction with Louth County Council to achieve this goal. Over the last few years we have been continuously fundraising to allow us to match fund any award up to 10% of the allocation.
“Because of the generosity of our entire Community, local business and Councillors and specifically our hugely generous benefactor, who wishes to remain anonymous at this juncture, we are delighted to say we have secured sufficient funds for this.
“It is simply impossible to outline what this will mean for Tullyallen and the wider community in Louth in terms of social and economic development. “This will finally allow for an all-inclusive space for groups such as the Active Retirement Group, Glen Emmet’s GFC, Tullyallen Macra, Men’s Shed Group, Tullyallen National School, Tidy Towns Committee, and all the groups that currently use the Community Centre.
“We are simply overwhelmed by the support that this project has received since its inception. It displays what a community working together towards a common goal can achieve.
“There are so many people that we wish to thank for allowing this dream become a reality. Unfortunately space does not allow for this so we will thank them individually at a later time but we simply must mention Paula Gribbon & James Treanor- community Support Section LCC, Geraldine Jones- Boyne Comms & LEO (Louth Local Enterprise Office) Mentoring Support. Fr Sean Dooley PP Mellifont Parish & Mellifont Finance Committee, Bishop Eamon Martin & Fr Colm O’Hagan, Fergus O Dowd TD and our Committee, without whom, none of this would have been possible.
Local Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd, has warmly welcomed the news that €225k has been awarded to develop the Tullyallen Community Centre.
“My colleague Minister Heather Humphreys informed me of the wonderful news with the monies being awarded through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme” he said.
“I wrote to Minister Humphreys last November on behalf of the Tullyallen Community Hub Committee, highlighting the importance of supporting the committee’s plan to substantially upgrade the existing building which was built back in the late 70s.
“I’m delighted for Ann Carolan and all of the committee members, and of course for the ever increasing number of residents in the area who will benefit from the rejuvenation of the building into the future.
O’Dowd added “This type of grant application is especially important in a rural community to create a sense of place through the enhancement of the built environment.
“The committee’s plan includes improving disability access, energy upgrades, new toilets and repairs to the roof amongst others, all with the end goal of greatly improving and expanding community group facilities and activities.”
