Town Park needed for expanding South Drogheda and East Meath – McGinty

“Council should actively engage with businesses to seek their financial support”

Labour Councillor Elaine McGinty has said that the time has come to develop a new Town Park for the growing population of South Drogheda and East Meath and she thinks that local industry should be asked to support it financially.

She points out that substantial lands have been zoned as “Open Space” in South Drogheda, within the Meath County Development Plan.

“For many people, lockdown brought a new appreciation of nature and what it means for our well-being” McGinty said.

“It has also shown that we urgently need more dedicated greenspace, to exercise, play, promote social cohesion and most importantly to let nature back in.  This would be a space for all the community to enjoy.”

“Funding is always given as a reason why such projects are delayed and not always prioritised.

“I would suggest that the town of Drogheda is uniquely placed to make this vision a reality.   Given the level of Industry surrounding the town, we as a Council should actively engage with businesses to seek their financial support through Community Funding and make this park a reality.”

|”In today’s world we hear about businesses having a Corporate and Social responsibility for their impact on society and how better to fulfil this objective than helping the people of Drogheda to develop this park.

“This is a golden opportunity to bring the Industry and Community of Drogheda together in a positive way for the betterment of the environment and town.”
