Town in dread of return to gang feud following brutal killing in Rathmullan

Gardaí are on full alert and members of the public living in dread of a return to the criminal feud that scourged the town of Drogheda a couple of years ago following the savage beating and subsequent death of a man in Rathmullan Park.

A Garda investigation is continuing into the circumstances surrounding the death of the man, named locally as Brian Reynolds, who was found with serious injuries, thought to have been inflicted with a hammer, at approximately 7:30pm on Thursday 22nd December 2022 at a residence in Rathmullan Park.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda where he died on Christmas Eve, Saturday 24th December.

The office of the State Pathologist and local Coroner have been notified and a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted today, Monday 26th December. The results of the post mortem will determine the course of the Garda investigation.

A full technical examination of the scene at Rathmullan Park has been conducted by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information that can assist them with their investigation into this brutal crime to come forward.
