Three teenagers have been arrested after a car was driven the wrong way down the M1 motorway against oncoming traffic in the early hours of the morning.
The incident began at around 4.30am in Whitehall, Dublin, when the vehicle failed to stop for Gardaí. A containment operation was put in place as the driver made his way onto the motorway.
The car then travelled at speed along the M1, causing significant danger and disruption, before being stopped near the Applegreen Service Station at Castlebellingham almost an hour later.
The incident led to severe traffic delays, with many commuters held up for more than 45 minutes while Gardaí dealt with the situation.
The three teenagers were arrested and taken to a Garda station in the Dublin region for questioning. No injuries have been reported and investigations are continuing.
