Termonfeckin Councillor calls on Council to deploy crews to fix potholes
Labour Councillor Michelle Hall has said that that she’s been travelling around Ireland this summer and has seen no roads as bad as the ones around Drogheda.
“We need to examine why this is and how it can be rectified” she said and revealed that she has called on the Operations Department of Louth County Council to redeploy road crews to Drogheda Rural to repair the many dangerous potholes that are outstanding since 2020.
“At the last Drogheda Municipal District meeting, Councillors were led to believe that the more serious potholes would be repaired alongside road surface dressing preparations” Hall said.
However, Councillor Hall said she has been informed by South Louth engineers that no road repairs will take place now until at least mid-September.
“I’ve been told that there is only one road crew available in Drogheda Rural and they are too busy to carry out essential road repairs.
“Considering the state of disrepair on rural roads especially from Drogheda to Clogherhead along the R166 and the Cockle Road to Monasterboice, this decision is putting lives at risk for all who use those roads.
I had a near collision myself when a car swerved to avoid a huge pothole on a bad bend between Termonfeckin and Clogherhead and almost hit my car.
This is extremely frustrating as a Councillor that you can’t even get dangerous potholes filled.
“I am calling on Louth County Council to redeploy road crews from elsewhere in the county to make the roads safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. It’s not good enough that we have to wait another month while the roads continue to deteriorate.
“It also not fair that road users outside the main urban areas have to put up with inferior roads when we pay the same taxes as everyone else.
