Theatre of the Oppressed Festival Exploring Displacement and Belonging

According to UNHCR statistics published at the end of 2023 there were almost 120 million people displaced from their homes as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations or natural disasters.

With this as a stark backdrop, the Drogheda based NGO Development Perspectives has organised The (Dis)Placed Festival, a “Theatre of the Oppressed” event which will bring together global and local dialogues around the theme of displacement, land, identity, and solidarity.

Taking place from January 23rd to 26th, 2025, this immersive festival will feature a series of workshops, performances, and reflective experiences aimed at fostering community-driven change through activism and creativity.

The festival, with events in Droichead Arts Centre, DIFE and Glebe House at Dowth, will delve into issues such as the housing crisis, the struggle of Palestine, and the universal experience of migration. Audiences will be invited to participate in interactive performances and engage with activists, artists, and storytellers to explore the complex connections between local struggles and global solidarity.

(Dis)Placed is a unique Theatre of the Oppressed festival that brings together artists, activists, and community members to explore the pressing issues of our time. Through theatre, storytelling, and immersive dialogue, the festival seeks to raise awareness about displacement and encourage collective action for a more just and compassionate world.

By drawing connections between global issues, like the Palestinian struggle and the housing crisis, with local concerns in Ireland, (Dis)Placed provides a platform for solidarity and community-driven solutions.

Admission to all events is free, but spaces are limited so reserve your spot today and be part of this powerful and transformative experience.
