Termonfeckin Welcomes awarded €10K from International Protection Integration Fund

Termonfeckin Welcomes, the community group that is helping to integrate international protection applicants currently living in the Triple House in Termonfeckin, has been awarded €10,000 from the International Protection Integration Fund 2023.

The Termonfeckin Welcomes group was among 70 projects nationwide which are to receive funding under the scheme which was announced on Friday last by the Minister of State for Community Development, Integration and Charities, Joe O’Brien.

Now in its second year, The International Protection Integration Fund, supports chapter 5.2.2 of the commitments within A White Paper to End Direct Provision and Establish a New International Protection Support Service.

In the white paper, the Government committed to developing a community integration fund for International Protection applicants. Since its inception in 2022 the International Protection Integration Fund has supported 137 projects with grant funding totalling €2.8 million.

“The International Protection Integration Fund is a significant tool to assist civil society organisations with their invaluable work on helping to integrate people who come to Ireland seeking International Protection” Minister O’Brien said.

“The importance of this work with people who are at a particularly vulnerable time in their lives is crucial and every day we see the positive impact that civil society organisations make in helping to foster diverse and vibrant communities whilst supporting individuals. I am delighted to be able to award funding today to 70 different projects across Ireland for the development of such vital work.”

Green party Rep for Drogheda Rural and local Election 2024 candidate Anthony Murphy welcomed the announcement saying:

“Termonfeckin Welcomes are doing amazing work in helping to integrate the international protection applicants resident in the Triple House in Termonfeckin.

“I was delighted to hear that when Minister O’Brien announced funding, the Termonfeckin welcomes group was included with an award of €10,000.

“The members of this group are a great bunch of people who love their village and have great empathy for the plight of the residents in the Triple House.

“This money is well deserved and I know that the group will put it to good use. I had the pleasure recently to welcome Minister O’Brien to Termonfeckin where we discussed issues around the International protection application system amongst other issues impacting the people of Termonfeckin and South Louth.”
