Termonfeckin village to get new playground

A funding application by Termonfeckin Development Board (TDB for a village playground has resulted in them securing 100% funding totalling 207,000 under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

This funding will provide the children and parents of this growing community with an important recreational resource into the future. The local population has grown three-fold since 2006 with a significant number of young families.

“This facility is part of the ongoing development to the local infrastructure that is necessitated by the expanding village population” explained TDB Chairperson Kimmitt Sayers.

“Added to that, the increase in remote working means that families are spending more time together in their local areas. The playground will improve quality of life for our children and contribute to their well-being and social development.”

The National Play and Recreation Policy aims to ensure that all children have access to at least a minimum standard of play and recreation facilities.  The provision of fixed equipment playgrounds supports this aim.

“Improved pedestrian connectivity within the village means that our children can avail of this facility in a safer fashion and car journeys to alternative playgrounds will be much reduced” Mr Sayers added..

The playground will be located on the site of the water tower adjacent to Scoil Naomh Fechin and will be entirely designed, managed and constructed by Louth County Council in consultation with the local community. TDB invites any locals who are interested to participate in this consultation.

TDB would like to thank Cllr. Michelle Hall for her valuable contribution on this project. Local consulting engineers Brady Hughes Ltd. should also be thanked for providing advice on the proposal.

Mayor of Drogheda, Councillor James Byrne also welcomed the funding award.

“This will provide much benefit socially and economically for the village. It’s also great to see additional funding of €46,000 to enhance the community garden in Baltray” he said.

Almost €850,000 has been allocated to County Louth as part of the Government’s Town and Village Scheme. Collon, Dunleer and Carlingford also benefitted from the scheme.
