The man arrested last week and released after 24 hours of questioning in connection with the suspected murder of Kyran Durnin has been found dead.
The man was arrested last Thursday and held for questioning for 24 hours before being released without charge on Friday evening. In a statement issued today, An Garda Síochána said:
“Earlier today, Tuesday, 17th December 2024, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted following the discovery of a body of a male aged in his 30s in a domestic residence in Drogheda, County Louth.
After several weeks of slow progress, the Garda investigation into the disappearance and suspected murder of eight year-old Kyran Durnin took several leaps forward last week.
On Tuesday December 10th, Gardaí arrested a woman in her twenties as she entered the country at Dublin Port and held for 24 hours of questioning.
Following her release a man in his thirties was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder and Gardaí carried out a search at a house and back garden at Beechwood Drive in Drogheda.
The search was carried out by the Divisional Search team, supported by the Garda National Technical Bureau, Divisional Scene of Crime and Forensic Science Ireland and a specialist cadaver dog which is trained to detect human remains.
Following the discovery today of the body of the man who, according to Garda sources had a long history of violent offences, Garda Siochana issued a statement, saying:
“The local Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged. The outcome of the post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.
“No additional information is available at this time.”
