Steve Downe’s new book a tale of murder and mystery

Author Steve Downes, formerly of this parish but now living and writing in Edenderry, County Offaly, has just published his latest book, a murder-mystery novella called ‘The Italian Lady’.

Set in the west of Ireland in the late 19th Century, when the grand house was still the focal point of society life, this book tells the story of murders, family intrigue and deadly ambitions.

Camila Russo is a woman of the new Edwardian world, who finds herself caught up in the turmoil of the Mason family who live in the old world, a dying breed of landed gentry, clinging to their great house and to a lifestyle they can no longer afford.

Two murders take place in one night, with the help of a local policeman, Camila has twenty-four hours to find the connections between them, which will lead to the killer.

The Italian Lady will be available, worldwide, in Paperback on Amazon and The Book Depository, and in selected bookstores in the U.S. and Canada. The book will also be available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited, worldwide.

The Italian Lady is the first of three historical murder-mystery novellas by Steve Downes. The sequel will be launched in 2022. 

Steve Downes is an Irish contemporary poet and novelist, currently living and working in Ireland. He writes children’s books and adult fiction. The cover of The Italian Lady is a painting by the author called ‘Dancing Girl’.
