State-of-the-art interactive display awarded in national Promethean ‘Classroom Stories’ competition
Pupils at St Mary’s Parish Primary School in Drogheda were very excited recently when they found out that a video they had made has beaten schools from throughout Ireland and the UK to win the Promethean ‘Classroom Stories’ competition with a prize valued at around €3,400.
The video entries were judged on passion, innovation, and imagination and St. Mary’s Principal Mr Weir says he is extremely proud that the school was recognised as a winner in this year’s competition: “We’re delighted to have won the competition and we can’t wait to get started with our new ActivPanel” he said.
To produce the winning Promethean Classroom Stories entry, Mr Weir worked with a class to create a short video which demonstrated the use of robots for teaching in school with a sci-fi theme.
Explaining the thinking behind the submission, Mr Weir said: “We wanted to capture the work the pupils have been doing recently on robots and their role in space exploration. We’re a digitally progressive school and this was an ideal opportunity for us to showcase the children’s engineering and coding skills.”
The edtech prize is an award-winning Promethean ActivPanel complete with installation, training, and support. At St Mary’s Parish Primary School, this advanced interactive flat panel display will be installed in one of the classrooms where there is no existing panel.
Jim Wallis of Promethean, and one of the Classroom Stories judges, concludes: “The Classroom Stories competition gives us the opportunity to celebrate creativity in the classroom and recognise the positivity and inspiration that comes from education.
“St Mary’s Parish Primary School were deserving winners and I was particularly impressed by the quality of work the children are doing and the entertaining sci-fi twist. Congratulations to Mr Weir and all the pupils involved, you should be very proud!”
