St. Mary’s Hospital and Boyneview House get €7.26m for refurbishment

Over €10m announced for capital health projects in Louth for 2022

The Minister for Health, Fianna Fail TD Stephen Donnelly, has approved a spend of over €10m on health projects in County Louth for 2022 as part of a national spend on the construction and equipping of healthcare facilities of €1.02bn, an increase of 4% on 2021.

The single biggest recipient in this announcement is St. Mary’s Hospital in Drogheda which is to receive €7.26m for the refurbishment of Boyneview House and St Mary’s including new build providing 60 new beds in two phase of 30 beds each.

Another half million goes to purchase a house to be used as a residential facility for High Dependence Hostel whilst €1,25 is to be spent on a new ambulance base in Ardee and in Castlebellingham another €1.28m will go to refurbish, reconfigure and extend the existing Health Centre to create a Primary Care centre.

Welcoming the announcement, local Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd said, “It is good to see that continued and considerable investment if our local Health services, in particular the €7.26m that has been approved for works on the 60 new beds in the St Marys Hospital Refurbishment which is advancing well through construction stages.”

Mayor of Drogheda, Fianna Fail Councillor James Byrne also welcomed this morning’s good news about St Mary’s Hospital and The Boyneview on the Dublin Road.

“The project will consist of the refurbishment and new build of a total of 60 beds” he said. “Phase 1 will result in 30 new beds and Phase 2 will see the upgrading of a further 30 beds in the existing St Mary’s Hospital.

“A further €3m is heading for Louth, specifically to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ardee and Castlebellingham re construction and equipping of health care facilities. This significant investment follows on from the €5m allocated to Louth hospitals last year.”
