Something for everyone as Louth Science Festival returns for its sixth year

If your little ones have ever wondered how Santa’s sleigh flies sustainably; how he avoids bad weather, and what food and drinks are best left out for him on Christmas Eve, don’t miss Louth Science Festival!

One of the most highly-anticipated events in the Louth Library Service calendar, the Louth Science Festival, starts on Monday November 13th 2023and runs until Sunday 26th.

Funded and supported by Louth County Council and Creative Ireland, Louth Science Festival makes science more fun and accessible to the entire community. The local authority have partnered with local community groups and schools, national organisations and a wide range of facilitators to deliver a unique and engaging programme.

The festival will have input from Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT), iCrag, the Irish Air Corps and Met Éireann, as well as local primary and secondary schools. Furthermore, new collaborations with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland (WRI) will lead to a number of exciting, specialised events for schools, Early Learning Centres and adults, including road safety demonstrations and origami workshops.

There is something for everyone at Louth Science Festival; from our youngest citizens to our oldest; for all interests and abilities. For instance, there will be talks on the craft of Blacksmithing; Farm Safety; Geology; and supporting your immune system through the Winter months.

Workshops for schools will include DNA Cell Explorers; the Science of Music; and Weather and Climate.

For the first time ever, Louth Library Service will invite teams to join in a fun Family Science Quiz, to test the depth of their science and general knowledge and be in with the chance of winning a great prize!

The festival will officially be launched on Saturday, November 11th, when Dr Barry Fitzgerald kicks off proceedings with ‘The Science of Santa Claus’; taking place in Drogheda Library at 12:30pm. If your little ones have ever wondered how Santa’s sleigh flies sustainably; how he avoids bad weather, and what food and drinks are best left out for Santa on Christmas Eve, this event is not to be missed!
