Dundalk native and Mornington resident Claire Corcoran claimed a silver medal at the World Virtual Indoor Rowing Championships on Saturday, February 28.
Claire also set a new Irish record for the fastest female distance rowed in one minute, covering 341 metres during the competition.
A member of Inver Colpa Row Club in Drogheda, Claire competed in the female 45 to 49 years age category.
Athletes from around the world raced from their homes, gyms and rowing clubs during the finals, connecting virtually through their Concept2 indoor rowing machines and competing in real time within their respective age and weight categories.
Claire was one of six rowers worldwide who progressed through the heats to reach Saturday’s final.
She was supported by her family and fellow Inver Colpa members from her race base at the club’s current home at the Boyne Fishermens Rescue on the Marsh Road in Drogheda.
Inver Colpa Row Club said they were extremely proud of Claire as well as club members Lisa Marie Campbell and Martin Murphy, who also trained and competed in the championships in their respective age categories.
