Drogheda Classical Music continues to attract top musicians to Drogheda
Ever since its inception in October 2012, Drogheda Classical Music has attracted many of the top classical musicians in the world to play in the beautiful St. Peter’s Church of Ireland which offers an intimate concert experience for both audience and performers.
Following the successful opening concert of the current season last month, Drogheda Classical Music is delighted to present the Lir Quartet with special guest cellist, Christopher Marwood.
Individual members of the quartet are no strangers to Drogheda, having performed here in other ensembles in the past but this will be the Lir’s first performance. Founded for Barry Douglas’ 2017 Clandeboye Festival, the Lir Quartet is one of Ireland’s most exciting chamber groups.
On Saturday 13 November at 7:30pm in St Peter’s Church of Ireland, the Lir Quartet will be joined by esteemed cellist Christopher Marwood (Vanbrugh Quartet) for Schubert’s Cello Quintet.
Often cited as the most beautiful melody in all classical music, Schubert’s Cello quintet is a work of light and shade, serenity and drama, The last piece of chamber music that he wrote prior to his premature death at the age of 31, it is surely one of his most recognisable and beloved pieces and indeed of all chamber music.
This will be paired with Irish composer John Kinsella’s quartet ‘On hearing Purcell and Shostakovich at Bantry House – June 2008’. This work was premiered at the prestigious West Cork Chamber Music Festival some years back and is an apt and suitable partner to Schubert.
To ensure comfort and safety, capacity will be reduced to allow social distancing and each concert will last c.1 hour without an interval. Tickets cost €20 and must be booked in advance from Droichead Arts Centre on 041 9833946.
All health guidelines will be strictly adhered to and we are obliged to check for proof of vaccination or immunity due to recent recovery from Covid-19. Entry will not be permitted without a Cert. Masks to be worn during the performance. More information from www.droghedaclassicalmusic.com
