Essential repairs need to happen before schools return – Callan
After 16 weeks of asking the council to repair the road surface at the Beechgrove junction beside Harty’s cottage, Independent Councillor Kevin Callan says the temporary works carried out have already started to come apart after just two weeks.
Cllr Callan said that the state of the road surface had been flagged at the past three monthly meetings of the Borough District and senior officials had not been able to say when the works would be carried out.
“At the June meeting I took issue with senior engineers by saying the lack of detail or response was unacceptable, within days crews were carrying out a temporary patch” Callan said.
“I cannot understand how management are not giving crews the time or resources to do a full repair. The knock on effect here will ultimately be a bigger and more expensive repair possibly in September when the schools are back which will cause huge disruption for residents.
Having inspected the junction this weekend, Councillor Callan says it is clear that the repair is starting to come apart as expected.
“The management of the council need to act now at this location and others throughout the town such as the speed ramps at Mell and the Dublin Road beside the train station entrance to fix what will only get worse and more costly to fix in the long term” he said.
