An Bord Pleanála has approved the long awaited path and cycleway connecting the Rathmullen Road to the Boyne Greenway.
Local Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd, said “The funding for the project was initially approved over three years ago but it was subsequently referred to An Bord Pleanála for approval, this new connection will see the construction of a new segregated footpath and cycleway with associated lighting linking the Rathmullen Road to the wonderful Boyne Greenway.
“Whilst this is only a modest piece of infrastructure it will complete the connection between the increasing population density on the Rathmullen road to the Greenway which will lead to safer access for walkers and cyclists.
“The area of Rathmullan Road has continued to see significant population growth and development over recent years but there has been no safe route linking residents and walkers to the Boyne Greenway.
“This news comes just weeks after Meath County Council confirmed the tender is out for works to the damaged section of the Boyne Greenway and they expect works to start during the summer months, alongside the re-opening of the Obelisk bridge and of course the €10m recently announced to develop the Oldbridge House.
“All of this is of great benefit to the local community and will encourage many more people to visit the area in the near future.”
