Sinn Féin TD for Louth and East Meath Imelda Munster TD has expressed shock and concern at the news that there are to be job losses at Hilton Foods in Termon Abbey, Drogheda.
Deputy Munster was speaking after news broke that following a review at the company, there are to be job cuts.
Deputy Munster said: “This is absolutely shocking news, and is devastating for those affected and their families.
“Reports suggest that there is up to 77 jobs on the line here – I have written to the CEO of Hilton, asking him to provide the detail of how this decision came about and what steps were taken to prevent this outcome.
“I have also written to the Minister for Enterprise Leo Varadkar TD asking him to liaise with the company as a matter of urgency to explore all options that might save these jobs.
“The company and the Minister have obligations in relation to these workers, and they must work together to find a solution to this matter.
“Workers and families are already struggling after two long hard years in a pandemic, as well as a cost of living crisis. This is devastating news for the workers at Hilton – no stone can be left unturned in seeking an alternative solution here.”
