At yesterday’s Borough Council meeting Cllr Paddy Mc Quillan raised the issue of speeding in the Ballsgrove estate which he says is a serious problem for local residents, especially at night.
Cllr. McQuillan said that residents had contacted him about this issue and asked Council officials to instigate some programme to address the traffic speeding problem.
“This is a problem that needs sorting out” he said. “During the day the area is busy with traffic due to the shops, school, and HSE Centre but after six in the evening is a different story.
“Residents experience cars speeding up and down the area. Doing a speed survey will not highlight the problem as this just gives the average speed of traffic over 24 hours.
“The problem is being caused by cars at night. I have raised this at Municipal meetings and I have requested that low cost safety measures be included in the road works programme for the year ahead.
“Ballsgrove is a settled estate with mostly mature residents and they are fearful of an accident happening due to this behaviour by certain drivers. I will continue to engage with the council in pursuit of a positive outcome for the residents of Ballsgrove.”
