NI First Minister Michelle O’ Neill visits Boyne Fishermen’s headquarters

On Friday last, May 24th, the Northern Ireland First Minister, Sinn Féin’s Michelle O’Neill, EU Election candidate Michelle Gildernew and local TD Imelda Munster joined Sinn Féin Drogheda candidate Debbie McCole for a guided tour of the Boyne Fisherman’s Rescue and Recovery boathouse on the Marsh Road.

Local Election Candidate Debbie McCole is one of 30 volunteers who are on call 24 hours 365 Days a year.

McCole said: “Volunteers are alerted through a VHF based paging system and we provide a search and recovery service, to people and communities who have lost loved ones through drowning tragedies on the rivers, lakes and sea around the 32 counties of Ireland.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to share the tour with these three fabulous ladies who have supported me throughout my campaign. They have always impressed me but today it was their turn to be impressed.”

“The mission statement of the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service states that “If the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service receive a call to anywhere in the 32 counties of the Island of Ireland, where possible the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service will never refuse to attend, and where possible shall stay until the missing person is returned to their family.”

“We are proud to say that our mission statement has yet to be broken” Debbie said.
