World Gate Restaurant getting back to business

The World Gate Restaurant in Termonfeckin opened for business with great fanfare on December 4th 2019 and their French Cuisine was a great hit with locals and visitors alike.

That Christmas the new business exceeded all expectations and the reviews in local and national media brought visitors in their droves.

But just three Months later, like everywhere else in the world, it all came crashing down thanks to the worldwide pandemic and The World Gate had to close.

Proprietor Stanislas (Stan) Danthouard tried everything he possibly could to keep the show on the road including offering a very classy take-away menu during the various lockdowns and attempted to run twice a special event to celebrate Bastille Day with up to 100 people.

In April of this year Stan reopened the World Gate with support from his landlords, the ICA at An Grianan, and with reduced staff levels to see if he could claw back some of the custom that had been built up so quickly.

“Despite all the difficulties brought about by the covid-19 pandemic, I still believe locals still need a different cuisine to dine in the region” he said.

Having only been fully operational for three or four months, Stan now faces a giant task in regaining the momentum built up so quickly when it first opened.

He has a herculean task ahead of him in getting back to business, one that is not being made any easier by the recent increases in energy costs, but he is appealing to previous customers to give it another try.

He is determined however to get back on track to achieving his life-long ambition to run a restaurant in his adopted country and neighbourhood offering French cuisine at a much more  affordable price.

He is asking diners to consider a return for lunch or dinner at the World Gate Restaurant which is on the entrance to the ICA Headquarters at An Grianan on the Baltray Road in Termonfeckin.

“I have improved my menu and I’m known for using only locally produced ingredients wherever possible. I especially love to get my fish and my prawns from suppliers based in Clogherhead ” says Stan.

His locally sourced monkfish flamed with cognac and his lobster sauce are the stuff of legends while other favourites include grilled fillet steak, stuffed loin of pork with bacon and pepper cognac sauce served with gratin potatoes, seafood risotto and scampi made from prawns fresh from the Irish Sea.

“For lunch, locals also like my prawn salad, house burger and salmon sandwich” said Stan. “Customers are invited to use the online booking system or to book your table by phone in advance to avoid disappointment.”
