Sinn Féin Councillor Joanna Byrne to run in the general election

Drogheda Councillor Joanna Byrne has been selected by Sinn Féin to contest the upcoming General Election in Louth alongside Dundalk TD Ruairí Ó Murchú.

Posting on her Facebook page tonight Ms Byrne said she was honoured to be selected by Sinn Féin.

“I am strong, experienced and passionate about Drogheda, it’s wider hinterlands into East Meath, and indeed the broader County of Louth” she said.

“I have big shoes to fill in the absence of Imelda Munster but I vow to build on the work done before me and to stand up for those who need me.

She promised that she would be a voice on a national scale for the families and our community that has been left behind by successive Governments who, she said, “have turned a blind eye to this region over many decades when it comes to investment and services.”

“Sinn Fein has the policies and the political will to deliver for the people of Louth and I look forward to this next chapter and the challenge ahead of me.
