Newly elected Sinn Féin TD for Louth/East Meath Joanna Byrne has been appointed to her party’s front bench as spokesperson on Arts, Sport, Communications, Culture and Media.
Deputy Byrne will be one of six female TDs, including party leady Mary Lou McDonald, set to take prominent roles on the opposition benches for Sinn Féin.
Deputy Byrne said “In my maidan speech on December 15th I had the opportunity and great honour to second the nomination of Deputy Mary Lou McDonald for Taoiseach. And now I have received a further honour to be appointed to my party’s front bench in my first term as a TD.
“I am more than looking forward to getting to grips with my new brief and to tackling the government on the issues facing the Irish people.”
“I think everyone knows that Sport would be a passion of mine, being the only female Chairperson of a League of Ireland Club, but I will give equal time and commitment to every part of the brief.”
“I was elected as a result of a campaign of hope and positive change, and my task now is to ensure that I do my utmost to deliver that.
That positive change is what all the people of Louth/East Meath and Ireland deserve.”
