Parklets are becoming all the rage in the streets of our towns and a newly installed one in Ardee has been described by Councillor Pearse McGeough as “an asset to the town” which “enhances the outdoor café experience.”
The Sinn Féin Councillor said took a bit of work but it has paid off and the business Wheels & Heels are delighted that their customers can have their coffee sitting at a table, under an umbrella and watch the world go by.
“It’s something different for Ardee” McGeough said.
“I had expressed my concerns about the lack of disability access in the parklets in the rest of the county when we were in the process of getting this one for Ardee but I am delighted to say that this one has access for wheelchairs so nobody is excluded.
“I visited the parklet after it was erected and the tables were quickly occupied and the comments were very positive and pleasing. There was a pleasant ambiance under the umbrella among the customers which has been missing from hospitality for some time. Hopefully this is a sign of getting back to our social normal.”
Councillor McGeough has since been approached by other businesses who would like a similar infrastructure.
“Although we don’t really have the weather here for parklets, they are a great idea in the circumstances for allowing people to have a wee bit of comfort while socialising with a cup of coffee.”
Councillor McGeough ended by saying “I wish Linda and Eamon all the best with their new seating area and would encourage people to drop by and try it out.”
