Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland have launched a unique GP Screening Card which people living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus (SB/H) can take with them when visiting their GP.
The Card contains a list of essential medical checks which individuals living with the conditions should be receiving from their GP annually.
The GP Screening Card launch comes on International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2021 and as part of a strategy to manage the recurring health issues experienced by people living with SB/H in Ireland.
The multifaceted nature of the conditions means that individuals must ensure they are attending regular check-ups with a range of medical specialists including Neuropsychology, Occupational Therapy, Urology, and more.
The cognitive difficulties associated with hydrocephalus makes remembering each essential medical check exceptionally difficult. The GP Screening Card aims to overcome these challenges while enabling people living with SB/H to independently manage their own health and wellbeing.
Speaking on the importance of the card, SBHI CEO Gerry Maguire, said:
“Living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus can be challenging at the best of times. Remembering appointments for medical treatments can be an issue for some of our members with hydrocephalus, and that is why we have devised this unique card. I am sure it will quickly become a very useful aid.”
The GP Screening Card is a free resource available now. Please email info@sbhi.ie to receive your card today.
