Ged Nash, Labour TD for Louth and East Meath, has welcomed information given to the Labour Party on the schools in Louth and East Meath that will be included in the new school’s hot meals programme.
Deputy Nash has a long-track record of support for school meals projects, having been involved many years ago in the service managing the Breakfast Club in St. John’s and St. Paul’s in Rathmullen.
“For many years, Labour has been calling for the expansion of the hot school meals programme in our costed alternative Budgets.
“I am delighted to see that among the 900 schools that are now to receive hot school meals, 22 of them are in this constituency.
“This can make a significant difference to children’s health, wellbeing and the learning environment and can be a significant help to parents struggling to make ends meet.
“With prices at the supermarket checkout still extremely high, this measure can go a long way to addressing child poverty and providing a level playing field for children.
“No child in Louth or East Meath should ever go hungry and I hope to see this scheme rolled out to even more schools until every child in Ireland can be guaranteed a hot meal at school.
