Cllr Sharon Tolan says the life rings are essential for safety
East Meath Cllr Sharon Tolan has put a video on her Facebook page warning people that four life rings had been removed from their case holdings in Mornington.
In the video, recorded this morning (Sunday), she said she was in Mornington and was “really disgusted and disappointed to see that the four new life rings that were installed recently by Meath County Council have been removed.”
“There seems to be an ongoing effort in the Mornington area to destroy these life rings. They are essential for safety, it is a very popular area for swimming, even though it is not recommended; it is quite a dangerous current down this end.”
She then asked people who were planning to swim in the Mornington area. to be “very, very careful today, perhaps stick up in the Bettystown or Laytown area where the life rings are in situ and the lifeguards are working today.”
She said she will be discussing what happened with the Gardai and the council to see what can be done to prevent it happening again.
