Irish citizens are being asked to vote in two referendums taking place on 8 March to change the Constitution. The first concerns the concept of Family while the other proposes to delete an existing part of the Constitution and insert new text providing recognition for care provided by family members to each other.
Constitutional law is a mystery to the average citizen and certainly there is much confusion surrounding the implications of just what we are being asked to vote on.
If only someone would organise a meeting where the pros and cons of each question can be debated calmly with a view to helping people make up their minds.
Well that’s exactly what Peter James Nugent, an independent candidate in the local elections, has done – organised a meeting to explore reasons why you might want to vote yes or no in the referendum.
This event will be held in McHugh’s Venue on Monday 26th of February at 7pm. Peter has put out a call for speakers from both sides of the argument and is hoping for an open discussion from both yes and no advocates to help people make their minds up.
“This event is for the public to attend to get as much information as possible to help them vote on March 8th” Petr James said. He also highlighted the importance of people getting the correct information to help them decide what way to vote.
