“Make it Happen” says Tolan
Local Fine Gael Councillor, Sharon Tolan told elected representatives in Meath today that it was incumbent upon them to help deliver Technological University status for DkIT.
The call to action from Councillor Tolan, who is a member of the governing body of the Institute, came following a motion she proposed at this month’s Full Council Meeting.
The motion “to call on Meath County Council to fully support DkIT in it’s ambition to secure Technological University status, and to promote the importance of TU status for the county and for the region in every way possible, and to write to the Minister for Higher Education, Simon Harris to confirm this support” was unanimously supported by all members of Meath County Council.
“As elected representatives, we have a responsibility to do all we can to promote and enhance the educational, economic, social and cultural development of our county, however, we have all recognised the need to shift our strategy from the old county jersey days, and embrace a more regional approach to addressing our constituents needs” Tolan said.
“The best way for us as locally elected representatives, to champion the economic development of our county, is to ensure our learners, our employers, and our innovators have access to a multi-campus Technological University in our region” she added.
“We can’t just sit back and wait for this to happen. It is incumbent upon us to help make it happen.” stressed Tolan.
The President of DkIT, Michael Mulvey, along with Vice President for Strategic Planning, Communications and Development, Irene McCausland and Chair of Governing Body, Paddy Malone were in attendance at today;s meeting to give a presentation on the Institute’s plans and vision for the future as it works towards gaining Technological University status.
