Councillor Stephen McKee, who is also the Chairperson of the Indaver Community Grants Scheme for 2022, has warmly welcomed the granting of funding to local community groups and organisations in the East Meath area.
The Awards Evening for the Fund was held last Thursday evening at the Carranstown Lodge, Duleek where grant cheques were awarded to all the successful groups.
McKee stated: ‘As a local Councillor and as Chairman of the Indaver Liaison Committee for this year, I am pleased to have supported the many local groups with funding under the Scheme this year along with my fellow Committee Members.
“This year, just over €136,000 in funding was awarded (considerably less than normal due to €150,000 funding already committed this year to the Community Facility Project in Duleek which is now open to the public).
“I am particularly pleased to support our local GAA Clubs, Duleek-Bellewstown GFC, St.Mary’s Donore and St.Colmcille’s GFC who have received further funding to develop their facilities along with Duleek AFC Soccer Club who were the biggest beneficiary this year with an award of €35,000 to develop another playing pitch which is badly needed by the Club. Cushenstown Athletic Club also received funding to enable them to continue to provide top-quality training facilities for local athletes.
“I am delighted that we were also able to ring-fence funding of €10,000 towards the Alzheimer’s Louth East Meath Society who do tremendous work in the area and who have recently opened a fantastic facility at Tredagh Lodge. That funding is very well-deserved.
‘Many more groups received funding such as the Duleek Drama Players, Bellewstown Tidy Towns, Mollies Animal Rescue and Duleek Cardiac First Responders showing the wide scope of the scheme and the variety of groups that benefit from it.
“Under the planning conditions of Indaver, a donation is made to the local community for every tonne that is accepted into the Waste-to-Energy facility. The Fund is managed by the Community Liaison Committee and the fund is designed to provide financial assistance to local community-based clubs and voluntary organisations for the development of community projects and works in the locality.
“I am pleased that so many local groups and organisations will benefit this year from the Scheme. They make a huge contribution to our communities. I will continue to work hard on behalf of all our local groups” concluded McKee.
