McKee proposes expansion of Drogheda d bus service to include Duleek and Donore

Cathaoirleach of the South Drogheda & East Meath Municipal District, Cllr Stephen McKee, is proposing an expansion of the hugely success D Bus Service to include a new high frequency service to both Duleek and Donore.

“Following numerous queries I’ve received from local residents, I have formally requested that the NTA expand the service and create a new D6 route linking Duleek and Donore with the current D4 and D5 service route at Southgate Shopping Centre and continuing on into Drogheda, stopping at both the Bus Depot and Lourdes Hospital. There is a great opportunity for a new transport spur to be created from Southgate” McKee said.

“Such a route, run with the same bus frequency as the current D routes, with buses every half hour from 6am, would facilitate Duleek and Donore residents wishing to do their shopping up at Southgate Shopping Centre, Colpe or wishing to travel further down the Dublin Road and into Drogheda for social, leisure or work purposes. It would be of particular benefit for college students who would be able to connect with the Matthews Service at Colpe or other Bus Eireann services in Drogheda.

“The D1, D2, D4 and D5 bus services are operating for a few years now and are a brilliant service to the town for residents in the South Drogheda and East Meath area. Now is the time for the service to be enhanced and expanded by including Duleek and Donore on a new D6 Route which would enhance connectivity between both areas and Drogheda.

“I am hopeful that the NTA will see merit in the strong case that I have put forward to strengthen and improve public transport services for residents of Duleek and Donore.”
