Mayor urges people to avail of free Covid-19 test

Bolton Square test centre open until tomorrow evening

Mayor of Drogheda Kevin Callan has expressed his thanks to the HSE, the National Ambulance Service and Louth County Council for working together to establish a temporary free walk-in COVID 19 test centre for asymptomatic people in the town.

In recent days, with numbers increasing in the Drogheda rural and then urban areas and following a briefing by the HSE to the council, it was decided to place the temporary centre in Drogheda for three days opening Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am to 6pm.

Following his test Mayor Callan said that he and the 329 other people who had attended were seeking to do their bit to help prevent the spread of the virus.

“This centre is here for a reason and should send a clear message in the same week we see the reopening of non-essential retail and other facilities, it is so important to keep our guard up and to continue to follow public health guidance.

“Pop in to protect your loved ones.”

“Spread the news don’t spread covid.”

The mayor was briefed by HSE personnel and members of the National Ambulance Service and he extended his thanks to everyone involved.

We are very fortunate to have such dedicated public health officials doing this work in the heart of our town.

After his test Mayor Callan said it was fine to take.

Urging people who have not already been tested to do so he said: “There is no discomfort but in taking it you may be helping stop the spread to family members or friends”.

The test centre is at Bolton Square Carpark, Bolton Street, Drogheda (Eircode: A92 DKR0) and is open from 10am to 6pm daily until tomorrow, Thursday May 20th.
