None of us is that clever that we can’t benefit from learning new skills either for career enhancement or, more importantly, for personal development.
People of all ages and backgrounds are increasingly signing up for part time educational courses both to learn new skills and to expand their social horizons.
Joining a course is a sure-fire way of meeting people with similar interests so not only will it keep the grey matter ticking over you could well make new friends on the process.
Luckily, we are spoiled for choice in this area with the LMETB’s Community Education Service who deliver a wide range of educational courses to community groups and voluntary organisations.
The service prioritises individuals and groups who experience educational or social disadvantage or social exclusion.
Programmes are offered on a part-time basis in non-formal community-based settings. The courses are intended to provide personal and skills development for group members.
The Service has three calls per year where groups submit an application for tuition hours. If successful, LMETB’s Community Education Service provides tutors and materials to the groups.
Examples of courses completed recently by groups include: Cooking on a budget, arts and crafts, digital photography, mindfulness and yoga.
