Life Saved on River Boyne following Christmas Day rescue

The Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery saved a life on the river Boyne on Christmas Day.

A person was seen entering the water from St Mary’s Bridge around 16.30pm and their voluntary rescue crews were alerted and activated immediately.

A hero rescue swimmer was deployed from the shore and secured the casualty mid river in ice cold conditions.

Their inshore rescue boat quickly arrived at the scene recovering both the casualty and the swimmer.

CPR was commenced on board and continued at the BFRRS boathouse medical room on the March Road until the arrival of the National Ambulance Service who provided advanced care and transferred the casualty to hospital.

The Boyne Fishermen said the agencies involved in the rescue included the Drogheda Gardai, the National Ambulance Service, Louth Fire and Rescue, and the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit.

The BFRRS said a big thank you to all volunteers who answered the call on Christmas Day.
