“The speed ramp and crossing at Hardmans Gardens near the junction with Bothar Brugha is not fit for purpose and is damaging cars because there is sinkage and subsidence in the road on each side of the ramp” so says Independent Councillor Kevin Callan.
Speaking at the monthly meeting of the Borough of Drogheda Cllr Callan said that despite raising the matter several times with officials the ramp was still causing vehicles to scratch off the road, he and other elected representatives were assured that the ramp was to spec and compliant.
“I have stood and watched traffic scrape off this ramp and residents in the area are demented with the noise of these impacts day and night” he said.
“This is nothing to do with speed and it’s everything to do with a ramp that is not fit for purpose as the road has dropped on each side.
“I am asking the council to immediately inspect and correct this issue even if it means a temporary closure of the road.
“The thought that people are having their cars damaged on a daily basis is extremely annoying and is not acceptable.
“I describe this ramp as lethal, once traffic impact with the ramp people automatically break and this could not only cause damage to vehicles but could cause a road traffic collision and also endanger pedestrians, all of which are situations the ramp is meant to prevent.”
