Drogheda’s Kevin Leech is returning to Rás Tailteann in 2025, determined to finish what he started in 2023.after a crash forced him to withdraw. The local cyclist, who competes as a guest rider for Connacht Cycling, is eager to complete the race after a strong finish in 2022.
Leech, a proud member of Drogheda Wheelers, has a deep bond with his club and his hometown. “Drogheda has always been home to me” said Kevin. “Having the race start here this year makes it even more special. I want to make Drogheda Wheelers proud.”
Drogheda Wheelers is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and Kevin’s return to the Rás is seen as a symbol of the strong relationship between the club and the community. Gearóid Campbell, Secretary of Drogheda Wheelers, said, “Kevin’s commitment to Drogheda and our club is second to none. His return to the Rás with Drogheda hosting the start is a momentous occasion.”
Leech, who finished the Rás in 2022 but had to withdraw in 2023 after a crash, has been focused on building strength for the upcoming race. “I’ve been putting in the hours, working on my endurance and handling” he explained. “The Rás is always a challenge, but I’m ready to give it everything this time around.”
Pádraic Quinn, Manager of Connacht Cycling, is confident in Leech’s ability. “Kevin has the experience and motivation to perform well. We’re looking forward to seeing him race in the Rás and show his strength.”
For Kevin, the 2025 Rás is more than just a race; it’s a chance to show his dedication to Drogheda Wheelers and his community. “This is personal. I want to represent Drogheda to the best of my ability and finish strong” he said.
The 2025 Rás Tailteann will start from outside St Peter’s Church in Drogheda on May 21st at 11:30 AM. With the 40th anniversary of Drogheda Wheelers and a focused Kevin Leech, the 2025 Rás Tailteann is shaping up to be a memorable event for the local community.
