The onward march of Joanna Byrne in the male dominated world of soccer took a big stride forward this week when the Drogheda United Chairperson was elected to the FAI’s National League Committee at the Annual League of Ireland Forum on Tuesday.
The National League Committee supports professional and elite level football and has the responsibility of running both the Men and Women’s Leagues in the League of Ireland
Byrne was one of four nominees chosen to represent the Men’s Premier Division alongside Anthony Delaney from St. Pat’s, Daniel Lambert (Bohs) and Martin Heragthy (Sligo Rovers), once again with Byrne flying the flag for Women in the Premier Game.
These four join three other appointees from the Women’s Premier Division and three from the Men’s First Division, with this newly established committee sitting under Independent Chair Dermot Ahern who himself was awarded an extension of another two-year term at the helm. The first meeting for the committee will take place on December 19th.
