The Irish Girl Guides North East Region Conference took place recently in An Grianan Termonfeckin, the home of another strong all-female volunteer organisation, the Irish Countrywoman’s Association. Altogether some 82 Leaders and Senior Branch aged 14+ were in attendance.

It In the morning participants enjoyed a Hi-Digital Scavenger Hunt and Free Being Me, positive body image, interactive session; STEAM with NYCI, making fun electric circuits and Climate  Justice with Eco Unesco.

After a delicious lunch, Branch Trainings took place which included the Ladybird Culture Awareness Badge for ages 5-7,  Brownie Science Badge for ages 7-10, and the Guide “Fabric Badge” which links to so many other Badges and will help the Guides aged 10-14, get inspired for this year’s Michelle Cahalan Memorial Craft Challenge – themed Fabric.

The Conference is a time to celebrate dedicated Girl Guide Leaders, some receiving their Long Service Awards, and others recognised for achieving certified qualifications like Camp Organiser, Medical Officer and Senior and Junior Campcraft.

One of the highlights was hearing from two gentle and passionate Leaders who took a group of young women to join in The Tall Ships Challenge, they were an inspiration to all present and created those Guiding ‘tingles’.

“We are looking for additional volunteer Leaders to join our Teams so we can continue to provide opportunities for young women to grow in confidence in a fun and safe environment” said a spokesperson.
