Under 18 AC athlete Eimear Cooney secured her place in the Irish schools squad for the forthcoming international trip to Wales with a remarkable second-place finish in the Tailteann Games held in Santry last Saturday.
Eimear from Sacred Heart Drogheda was representing Leinster Schools and ran in the 1500m. She almost pulled off a big Gold medal but managed to secure the vital second place, that secured her international team selection and a trip to Wales next month.
U16 athlete Sholah Lawrence ran in the 800m final and was also representing Leinster Schools however she finished outside of the medals.
It will be an interesting week for Ace AC with both Shea O’Donnell and Lorcan Ford Dunne eagerly awaiting the Irish squad announcement for the upcoming European U18 championships in Slovakia in July. Both boys have qualification times however need to wait on other results this weekend before any squad selection is made.
