O’Shea Sets College Record at Charleston

Matthew O’Shea produced an outstanding performance for Charleston University at the US Collegiate Indoor Track and Field Championships in Huntington, West Virginia.

O’Shea secured third place in the men’s 1000 metres with a time of 2:29.46. The result marked both a new personal best and a college record for Charleston University.

Competing overseas away from his home club, O’Shea showed strong form in a highly competitive collegiate field, continuing his impressive progress on the US collegiate athletics circuit.

O’Connor Crowned Scottish Masters Champion

Gerry O’Connor, a founding member of Drogheda and District Running Club, delivered an outstanding performance at the Emirates Arena, winning the M60 400 metre indoor title at the Scottish Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The victory marked a strong return for O’Connor, who improved on his second place finish at last year’s event to take top spot on the podium. His championship success reflects the dedication and competitive spirit that have defined his athletics career and highlights the long standing contribution he has made to Drogheda and District Running Club and the local running community.

Hanlon Extends Winning Streak with Louth Title

Aaron Hanlon continued his exceptional form with another impressive victory.
Fresh from his win at the Leinster Cross Country Championships, he claimed the Senior Men’s 6k title at Rás na hÉireann in Dunleer, securing the Louth Championship crown.
The back to back successes underline Hanlon’s strong run of results and confirm his status as one of the region’s leading distance runners.

U15 Girls Strike Gold as Juveniles Deliver Strong Showing in Dunleer

Also delivering strong performances in Dunleer were the club’s juvenile athletes, who competed in very muddy conditions that made for a tough course, but worked hard and showed great teamwork throughout.

Emily Garvey produced a standout run, finishing in third place in the Under 15 category, while the Under 15 girls team secured the gold medal on the day.

Donnelly Claims Podium Finish at Clogherhead Seaside 5k

Tadhg Donnelly produced an outstanding performance at the Clogherhead Seaside 5k on February 8, claiming a podium finish with an impressive time of 14:57.

The well organised race, held in dry conditions, saw strong representation from Drogheda and District Running Club. Donnelly’s result was particularly notable as he returned from university training in the United States in excellent form, highlighting the quality of his preparation.

The club also enjoyed strong success across several categories. Brian Martin ran 16:43 to take first place in the M40 category, while Ruaidhrí Nolan finished second overall in 16:55. Barry Foley added to the club’s strong showing with a time of 18:11.

Shane Larkin secured second place in the M50 category with 18:44. In the women’s masters events, Margaret Carroll won the F60 category in 25:26, while Nuala Reilly claimed victory in the F70 category with a time of 26:30.

The results reflected the depth of talent across all age groups within the club and highlighted its continued strength and commitment to competitive running.
