It seems that some people are just too thick to understand that dumping rubbish at the side of the road, whether it’s in the town or the countryside, is just not acceptable under any circumstances.
In the latest case, some idiot has dumped a bed and other items of bedroom furniture in a gateway at Balgatheran off the Hill of Rath much to the displeasure of Councillor, Declan Power who has strongly condemned the large-scale illegal dumping.
Cllr. Power say she has reported the illegal dumping to Louth County Council and said it was “an absolute disgrace” that people were dumping or ‘Fly tipping’ in our rural countryside.
“This illegal dumping of household waste is completely unacceptable in an area of rural beauty” he said. There was a huge amount of household waste that included beds and mattresses.”
“This behaviour is scurrilous and people who engage in this type of illegal dumping show a blatant disregard towards our local environment and a disregard towards civic responsibility with these acts.
“The culprit didn’t even make an attempt to hide the rubbish, which looks like a household clearance, dropped on the side of a road and couldn’t give a damn who was going to clear it up or who it affected.
“I have reported the incident to Louth County Council and the litter warden with the hope of obtaining an address or some description with a view to prosecuting the individual.”
“I am appealing to anyone who sees this type of illegal dumping to please contact the Louth County Council Litter Hotline 1800 202 606, report the issue, assist with prosecution and help prevent this happening again.
“I would also appeal to the public to ensure that your waste collector is properly registered and has a permit number. Any address that’s found in illegal dumping is going to bounce back to the owner of the waste and that person will be prosecuted.
“We must continue to protect our Countryside and beaches from this type illegal activity. We have great recycling centres and for the sake of a couple of euro could this type of dumping could have been prevented,” said Cllr. Power.
