The HSE has said that Drogheda is high up their list of locations for a new Ambulance Service base and that they are considering several options as regards the siting of the base.
They were responding to queries from Labour Deputy Ged Nash who had raised with them the need for a new, fit-for-purpose National Ambulance Service (NAS) base for Drogheda.
“I am encouraged that the HSE and NAS are actively pursuing the need for a new ambulance service base for Drogheda” Deputy Nash said.
“Hard working EMTs and all NAS staff are entitled to the best, fit-for-purpose facilities their life saving work demands.
“In response to the questions I posed, the HSE/NAS responded by saying;
‘Drogheda is very highly placed on the list of National Ambulance Service (NAS) priorities for capital investment. All options are under consideration from suitable adaptable rental property to green field sites that meet the criteria for a new ambulance base for Drogheda.
‘While a number of available properties/sites have already been examined by both HSE Estates and the NAS, unfortunately, they do not meet the necessary criteria with particular reference to traffic congestion at peak times.
‘Currently, a suitable location that may be become available in the near future is being actively pursued with the parties concerned.’
“I will continue to pro-actively pursue this project as an absolute priority for the Drogheda area and to a successful conclusion.”
